Changes for the 2006-2007 School Year

Orlando Schools has made several changes that will go into effect this fall. The first official day of school in the Orlando Schools is August 7th. This school year’s students attendance for the Orlando Schools has increased by around 4,000 students to 181,210 total students. This increase in enrollment has prompted Orlando Schools to open nine additional schools. The nine schools added to handle the new students are three middle schools and six elementary schools. In addition to the opening of the new schools, Orlando Schools will divide the South Learning Community into Southwest and Southeast learning communities. This division will allow better management of resources and help address the needs of the students. New legislation that will affect next the 2007-2008 school year was also passed. Starting then, the school year will start no sooner than two weeks before Labor Day which is a change to the usual early August start that allowed the semester to end before Orlando Schools’ winter break.

Orlando Schools First Days of School

For the second school year Orlando Schools is holding the First Days of School event. This is an event that is held at every school in the Orlando Schools district. Parents and students need to contact their school because each school will hold events at different times throughout the week leading up to August 7th. So instead of a single day, many schools will have an entire week of events.

Orlando Schools Help Students Get Ready for the 2006-2007 School Year

Orlando Schools has teamed up with the Apopka Chamber of Commerce and A.C.T.I.O.N. to help low-income students in the. They will work together to collect school supplies for students in need. Their aim is to have all students in the Apopka area have the tools they need to begin the new school year. This year’s program is called “Fill the Bus – School Supply Drive”. An Orlando Schools bus will be parked in area business parking lots throughout the summer; the goal is to fill the school bus with school supplies that students might need. The program will accept monetary donations as well. Participating businesses include Wal-Mart and Porkie’s Original BBQ. Apopka Chamber of Commerce and A.C.T.I.O.N. have made contacts with several school supply distributors, in order to use cash donations to their fullest; this allows the program to purchase supplies at lower prices than retail. The school supplies will be distributed to the community at a special back- to-school fair held at the John Bridges Community Center in late July.

Orlando Schools Eccleston Elementary School Gets Cleaned Up

During the summer Eccleston Elementary School received a make over thanks to a group of volunteers. More than 300 student teachers and retired teachers volunteered their time and resources to give Eccleston Elementary School a complete renovation. The teachers were at the annual National Education Association meeting. The teachers painted the insides of classrooms, painted murals on exterior walls, landscaped the grounds, added an automatic sprinkler system to the grounds, and remodeled the Parent Resource Center and the teachers’ lounge. The student teachers worked as part of a volunteer program sponsored by the National Education Association. The National Education Association spent months deciding which school in the Orlando Schools district would receive the make over. Eccleston Elementary School was selected because it was an older Title I school that was in need. National Education Association donated $65,000 towards the renovation, not to mention the time and labor of its student teachers.

The CPA exam is one of the most difficult s to pass. The CPA review programs help those wishing to take the exam prepare it by offering training programs and courses supported by a battery of tests. It has been noted that students who have participated in CPA Review Programs find it easier to pass the CPA exams. These reviews also provide the social function of making sure that CPAs know what they are doing, and that they will behave ethically with regard to numbers associated with doing business.

These courses are offered to students in the classroom, on-line or through a self-study CDROM. All of them include compulsory study programs. Past questions are reviewed and updated keeping in mind the changing laws. Essential subject areas and topics are identified and explained, making sure that students have the knowledge they need to pass the exam.

Problem and essay questions and multiple-choice questions are given from a prior certification exam. “Distracters” and “blind alleys” are recognized, and students answer these questions guided by professionals who are knowledgeable accounting instructors. Feedback is immediate and progress is recorded so that the student can work on improvement every time.

If a student is unsuccessful in some part of the CPA examination after taking the course, they have the option of taking the test again, as long as they commit to completing at least 90% of assigned homework. For CPA help, contact the Becker CPA Review, NIU College of Business, CPA Excel and others. He was extolling the virtues of a liberal arts education which, he told me, “isn’t supposed to teach you to do something; it’s supposed to teach you to be someone.” I responded, “You may be able to afford to be someone, but I have to learn to do something.

Community colleges, often considered the poor stepchild of four-year colleges and universities, are expert in providing their students with practical skills that lead to often lucrative jobs. Students developing hands-on knowledge of communications or medical technology, computer software use and programming, and other skills routinely find entry-level jobs that pay much more than retail sales and other low-paid work, and have the added opportunity of quickly advancing in their chosen professions as they develop additional skills.

Of course,

The Norton Anthology of English Literature, Volume 2: The Romantic Period through the Twentieth Century (Norton Anthology of English Literature) The Norton Anthology of English Literature is a well-known English literary studies supplement for many undergraduate and some graduate-level students. Works included in the anthology (or other Norton Anthologies) are seen as having reached canonicity. Published by the W. W. Norton and Company, the NAEL is divided into two volumes, separating the late Mediaeval era and the Renaissance (Chaucer, Shakespeare, etc.) from the Romantic, Victorian, and Modern eras of English literature.

The majority of tertiary institutions use these books as set pieces for introductions to Shakespeare, Blake, Tennyson, or Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, among many others.

In Volume 1, it explores extensively the very core of English literature from the Middle Ages, including Cædmon’s Hymn to Beowulf, moving on to Milton’s Paradise Lost.

The Middle Ages, the 16th century, the early 17th century, the 18th century, the Romantic Era, the Victorian Age, and 20th Century English literature are all well represented.

An anthology, literally “a garland” or “collection of flowers”, is a collection of literary works, originally of poems, but its usage has broadened to be applied to collections of short stories and comic strips. In genre fiction and especially science fiction, anthology is used to categorize collections of shorter works such as short stories, Novelettes up through short novels all collected into a (usually single) volume for publication.

The word derives from the Greek word for garland — or bouquet of flowers — which was the title of the earliest surviving anthology, assembled by Meleager of Gadara. Meleager’s Garland became the seed that grew into the Greek Anthology. The term miscellany is also used, but was more common in the past.

Surveys are based on the needs of companies, it provides a great insight into how companies are thinking and what products they are looking to launch. It provides people, especially students, with a fundamental and practical exposure to the world of market research. Understanding the need and implications of the survey questions and how companies are looking to benefit from such information is a great way of learning.

It helps people understand the psychological nuances of what goes into the development of products and services. It also helps people know how companies analyze and “decode” the customer. It is not as simple as it seems, yet understanding it can provide people immense knowledge of how this industry functions. Take for example in a survey you are asked about what types of computer games you play, then they ask you about your life and a few general questions about you. What is the researcher looking for? Well they are looking to find out if playing certain games makes you aggressive or not. Deep, yet quite simple. This information is invaluable to doctors doing behavioral research besides companies making computer games.

Take another example, in a survey panelists are asked for their opinion on certain names, what they like and what they don’t. This information is then used by the companies to name their products or at times even the name of their company. What this information can also provide is a window into how people think at the sub-conscious level. That is a very strong information to have, of course it does take a lot of time to collate the information and then understand the trend and the thought behind the responses.

Focus Group Discussions are also a good way of learning, but the learning is better when being an observer. In a Focus Group Discussion people discuss about a topic, the discussion is guided by the moderator to the eventual topic. In a Focus Group Discussion the eventual topic is never disclosed initially. When observing a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) we can understand the thought processes of the target group, which can provide a lot of insight into perception and what shapes it. What makes FGDs better is that it is more detailed, it is subjective and the body language can be observed in a controlled environment. An FGD provides a person an opportunity to learn more and in an in-depth manner when compared to a survey.

It does take some time to understand the results and to interpreted it in the right manner, but when people are able to understand this they would have gained a significant amount of knowledge and understanding of business. In terms of a career this can be very beneficial because the understanding gained can be really helpful in many professional roles, especially those that require understanding the consumer mindset.

It seems some people are born knowing exactly what they are going to do in the future but others need a little help to figure out what we want to do with our lives. There are people who have changed their career more than twice because it doesn’t suit them; they are not good at it, etc. These people are open to many options and are willing to try different things but they might take some time to figure out what they really want to do. To choose the right career people should look for something they like, something they are good at and most important something they are 100% confident they can do for life.

For choosing a career it is important that the person likes the career. Everyone has his or her own tastes, that is just what makes everybody different, the same happens when choosing a career since people tend to choose according their taste, in other words according to the things they like and feel comfortable about or to what they always had interest in. Other people like or relate to specific careers by their personality for example a very social person would like to take a career that allows him or her to interact with other people. One of the worst mistakes people make is choosing a career they don’t like. Some people even feel pressured by their family to take a career they have no interest at all. These people either get stuck in that career for a long time or they go wasting time looking for other careers. Besides liking the career there are other things to consider like: the salary, the time invested, the skills required and the opportunities this specific career gives. If the person feels ok with these requirements then it means that they don’t only like the career but also everything this conveys.

Most people choose the right the career according to what they know they are good at. These people can be talented, skillful or both talented and skillful. The talented people are already born with a special gift for example artistic people that are good painting or sculpting; they are the people who are sort of born ready. Most people are skillful and they learn throughout their life something through which they can stand out. These two aspects are important for a person to find something he or she is good at and preferably something he or she can do for living. When people are good at something they tend to enjoy practicing this more than other stuff they are not very good at. So it is not strange that people decide to take a career where they have some experience.

Another way of choosing a career is by having confidence in yourself to realize a certain career. A great way of elevating your confidence in choosing a career is visualizing yourself in one. If the person is able to see her or him doing that career and she or he becomes 100% confident in achieving that career then it is possible that the person will indeed achieve it. Perseverance and hard work along with confidence can make anyone achieve their goal. If the person is hesitating about the career then he or she should look for a career where they feel they belong to. People who trust themselves with a career are very committed to it and are willing to make some sacrifices for it as well. These are the people who were 100% certain that this is what they wanted to do for life.

So it is ok to take some time for choosing a college career because if not we would end choosing a career that is not right for us. So people should pick their career according to their tastes, to the things their good at, and to the things they have full confidence of achieving. If the person feels related to the career or feels comfortable with it then it is a great option. Being talented or skillful also helps in choosing because it gives the person experience in that area. The person’s emotion towards the career also helps in choosing because his or her confidence and perseverance in that career will help the person to finally achieve it. Following these three simple guidelines will help anyone with one of the hardest decisions ever: choosing a college career.

Often regarded as a traditional college diploma, a Bachelor degree is usually conferred after four years (120 credits) of general coursework, various electives, and a unique specialization that is commonly called a “major.” Majors range anywhere from the hard sciences to liberal arts to visual/performing arts.

More Accessible Degree Offerings

Increasingly, many schools have begun offering online Bachelor degrees in order to make their course offerings more accessible to individuals who, because of time, money, or distance, might not be able to attend classes at a traditional campus.

In pursuing an online Bachelor degree, you don’t need to commute. Most course materials are archived online, so you can retrieve them at your leisure. This also means that it is much easier to schedule classes at times that are convenient for you. Given the unique anonymity that distance learning brings, you don’t need to be “college age” in order to pursue online bachelor degrees.
Begin researching your options today to see how an online bachelor degree can benefit you.

Different Types of Online Bachelor Degrees

Although you can earn a bachelor degree in any number of fields, there are two basic kinds of diplomas. One is a Bachelor of Arts (known either as a B.A. or an A.B.), and the other is a Bachelor of Science (B.S.). There are also two lesser-known areas: Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) and Bachelor of Legal Letters (L.L.B.).

Job Opportunities with a Bachelor Degree

In most industries, a bachelor degree is a fairly standard educational credential employers will expect. This is especially true for occupations that require critical thinking, computer skills, and problem solving. To prepare yourself to be competitive in today’s job market, a Bachelor degree gives you the advantage to pursue secure positions, salary increases, and promotions.

You’re bound to have questions about the next step in your life, but sometimes that most puzzling question is what to ask. Here are questions you should throw at your high school counselor the next time you wonder what you’ll do after high school graduation:

1.What upper-level classes are available at this school? Ask if your school offers Honors, Advanced, Gifted, Intensified, Advanced Placement (AP), and/or Internal Baccalaureate (IB) classes. Colleges love to see that you’ve taken a challenging course load.

2.What advanced classes do you think are appropriate for me? Most students should not take all upper-level classes every period of the day because they often amount to unmanageable amounts of homework and unneeded stress. You, your parents, and your counselor should decide what your strengths and weaknesses are to determine which advanced classes are right for you and which ones you should avoid.

3.What does the average student course load at this school look like? Remember, you want to stand out in the college admissions process, so try to take a course load that goes above and beyond what the average student at your school takes. If you attend a highly competitive high school, this may be very difficult, but after discussing the subject with your counselor, you and your parents should be able to lay-out a schedule that suits your academic needs.

4.How is my GPA calculated? Different schools have different methods of calculating grades; some use 4.0 scales, while others use 10.0 or even 12.0 scales; other schools don’t calculate grades at all. Find out if your school weights grades (i.e., giving extra quality points for taking upper-level classes).

5.What is my current GPA? What can I do to improve my GPA? If your high school operates on the traditional 4.0 scale, you should maintain a 3.0 GPA if you’re looking at less competitive colleges and at least a 3.5 GPA if you’re interested in top-tier colleges—but remember that grades aren’t everything. If you fall slightly short of a college or university’s accepted average GPA, great standardized test scores, outstanding extracurricular activities, and a stunning essay may be enough to get you accepted anyway.

6.Are most of the graduating seniors at this school college-bound? Where do many of them go to college? It’s to your advantage if most seniors at your school don’t go to college, but if you attend a highly competitive high school, you will have to work extra hard to get accepted by your top school. Finding out where most seniors at your school go to college will help you gauge your grades and standardized test scores, and help you determine if you’re a good candidate for the college most seniors at your school end up attending.

7.Do you think I am a good candidate for college? What can I do to improve my candidacy for college? Maybe your past scholastic performance indicates that college may not be the best option for you after high school, but if you work diligently this year to improve your grades, then you’re at least in the running for a junior or community college—and you can always transfer to a four-year college later on.

8.When should I take the SAT I and SAT IIs? Is this school a testing center? Ask your counselor everything you need to know about the SAT; while your score on the test is not the most important factor in determining your acceptance into a college, it is one of the most important factors, so you need to be prepared to take the test and do your best.

9.When can I take AP/IB tests? Does this school pay for them or must my family cover the cost of taking the exam? Most colleges expect you to take at least one AP/IB class before you graduate from high school if you school offers any, but the most important thing you can do when taking the class is registering for the test. Colleges often care more about your score on the test than your grade in the class, so study hard for the test.

10.Does this school have a dual-enrollment program with the local community college? When can I begin taking classes there? If possible, try taking a class at your local community college during the school day in lieu of a regular high school course, or after school, or over the summer—so long as you think you can handle the intensity of a college-level course. It’s a great to prove to colleges that you’re prepared for a challenge.

11.What scholarships are available for students like me? This is an essential question if you suspect your family will have even the slightest difficulty in paying for college—which is probably 98% of Americans. Don’t think that you can depend on government aid alone; your family probably doesn’t qualify for as much from Uncle Sam as you hope. Unless your annual family income is under $45, 000, your family will have to pay for something—unless you win some fabulous scholarships. So start doing your research early!

12.What careers do you think seem like a good fit for me? If you have any doubts about your vocational direction, this is a wise question to ask, but that doesn’t mean you have to follow your counselor’s advice. Remember, what your counselor says is only a suggestion. Ultimately, you can do whatever you want to do so long as you have the motivation.

If it makes it easier, print these questions out and bring them to your counselor-and then don’t be afraid to ask away! After all, you have a right to know the answers!

Students will gain the analytical skill, hands-on experience, and technological know-how that is vital to success in the modern workplace.

Students in computer study programs will identify a concentration, after developing the basic understanding of computer sciences. Choices of focus are digital electronics, artificial intelligence, software engineering, computer networks, operating systems, graphics, or computer design. Programs of study in computers will instill basic science and engineering concepts through lectures, tutorials, and applications in laboratory study.

Students in early computer studies can expect studies to develop an understanding computer functions and applications. Courses will include mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, and computer organization. Once comprehension is developed in these basic foundations of computers, students progress to the study of more advanced theories and algorithms, and types and uses of hardware and software. Learning to build and analyze tools used to solve complex problems will be the focus of computer study. Advanced students will learn to apply methods and technology to solve actual computer and computing problems.

Programs of study in computer colleges and universities can net a bachelor degree in information technology with emphasis on web development, network administration, database administration, information security, technical support, e-commerce, web applications, and web site development.

Students can learn to manage networks, develop web pages and web sites, and troubleshoot computer systems. Two-year certificates and degrees are available from computer universities and colleges, as are four-year bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees. Certificate programs of study in computers in post-graduate studies can focus on software, operating systems, databases, software, security, e-commerce, and project management. A seasoned IT professional or newcomer to the field can study in flexible programs to acquire skills needed for more successful applications to computer technology.
