Teaching overseas is the best way to combine great working conditions with living an exotic lifestyle. But it’s not without pitfalls for the unwary. I’m going to share a little story with you about how an experienced international teacher ended up having a really, really bad couple of days…
When you are getting ready to move overseas, you will definitely want to take a very close look at what kind of visa you need to get. Moving your teaching career abroad isn’t the same as going on holiday. You are not entering the country for tourism purposes, and most countries distinguish between tourism visas and, well, non-tourism visas!
You many need to get a non-immigrant visa, or a business visa or a working visa… there are many names and number designations that are country specific. For example, teachers who are moving to the United Kingdom require a working visa (or a working holiday visa if they’re under 30) but I needed a non-Immigrant B visa to enter Thailand to take up my post here.
Your new school will let you know what kind of visa you need to get, but you’ll probably have to go and apply for it at the embassy yourself, possibly with documentation that they’ll send to you. Ensure that you read every word in the emails and letters from your new school. And if you don’t understand something, ask for clarification. Here’s why…
In 2007 I started my new job in Thailand at an international school. When we first arrived at the school for our orientation, we were asked to hand in our passports so that the school administration staff could prepare our work permit applications. Our work permits were to take the place of our non-Immigrant B visas when they ran out in a couple of months. We were assured that in the interim, we it was quite legal for us to be working on our non-Immigrant B visas.
I was rather confused when one of my new colleagues leaned over and quietly asked me what a non-Immigrant B visa was. After a little questioning I realized that she didn’t have the right visa because she hadn’t read the instructions in a registered letter we’d received months earlier. The letter contained our official invitation of employment that we were supposed to take to a Thai embassy to get the non-Immigrant B visa which would allow us to work legally in Thailand. My colleague had thought the letter was just something for our records…
As a result my colleague had entered Thailand on a tourist visa which couldn’t be ‘converted’ into a work permit under the immigration rules. This was the beginning of a number of really bad days for her as she had to leave the country in order to get herself the correct visa.
Yes, she got to spend 5 days in Malaysia while the Thai embassy in Malaysia processed her visa application. But it meant that when she got back to Thailand with the correct visa:
* she had no time to prepare for the students starting school the next day
* she still had nowhere to live when most of the rest of us had already found apartments
* she was several hundred dollars out of pocket because she’d had to pay for the trip (hotel, flights, visa for Malaysia) herself.
And the real eye-opener of this story? This particular colleague was an experienced international teacher starting her third overseas position.
It can happen to us all, but don’t let this happen to you! Read everything and ask for further information when you come across something you don’t understand. It’s highly likely that the people contacting you about visas and other ‘house-keeping’ issues will speak English as an Additional Language and this can make communication challenging at times. Bear with it and don’t assume that you’ve understood until you’ve checked.
A quick tip for you – if you’re having trouble communicating with the administrative staff at your school, ask for a ‘buddy’ from among the teaching staff to contact you. Your buddy can help interpret the correspondence from the school and help you out with any questions you have!

College life can be fun, exciting, and prepare you for a great career. To make the most of your time in college, be sure to manage your time well so you can make good grades and still have time for a life. These college time management tips will help you study smarter go you can keep your grades up and still have time for a life.
As the author of four college success guides and a college speaker, one of my main goals is to help college students use their time well so they can make the grade and have time to enjoy college life. College is about more than academics. So, be sure to get those study tips mastered quickly, so you have some time to have a balanced college experience.
Here are five reasons prepping for class makes learning a whole lot easier.
SHAVE HOURS OFF FUTURE STUDY TIME.
Prime your mind to store and retain information by making sure you read the required material before you go to class.
1. Big Picture Overview primes memory Our memory works by associating new ideas with old ones. When you read the assignment, and review the notes from last class, you pave the way for new information to be connected with this big picture concept that you’ve just studied.
It gives our mind an overall picture of what the main themes of the class will be. Our brains naturally store and recall information more effectively when we start with a big picture concept of the key ideas, and then fill in with specific examples and applications.
2. You’ll recognize and understand key terms more readily. Remember, understanding key terms, and their interconnection with key concepts is the basis for taking brief, memorable notes. For example, say your Psychology class is studying Freud. You need to know about the ego, superego, and the id, and when Freud says the develop. Reviewing ahead of time, you’ve primed you mind to pick up on your teacher’s mentioning any of these key terms. You will be able to listen more carefully, and to take more meaningful notes on how these three concepts influence each other and psychological development.
3. It allows note taking shorthand. Read ahead allows to check off directly in your book when the teacher covers something that is in there. Those unprepared will be writing like mad; you’ll simply be putting a symbol beside anything the teacher mentions that’s in the book. I recommend the letter “c” with a circle around it, so you can quickly notice that this is information covered in class. Anything mentioned both in the book and in the classroom is worth making a special note of.
4. It primes active listening Finally, coming prepared sets you up for active listening. That allows you to take fewer notes, because now you are ready to pick up the few keywords that contain most of the meaning in the lecture.
Let me cover the concept of key words in more depth here.
Say you just saw a great movie and you want to tell some friends about it. How much do you tell them? Certainly, not all the dialogue, nothing word for word would even make it into your description, unless there was a particularly clever one-liner.
Nope, you’d stick with the synopsis, just the highlights. You would condense a 2 hour show into a 5 minute description.
The review you would give the move contains the essence of the key words. That’s exactly what you’ll want to write down when you’re taking notes.
5. Prep makes taking notes a lot easier. Perhaps the best way to take notes is a process of 3 dimensional, one-page note taking, sometimes called brain webs or mind maps®. In this process, the central idea is placed in the middle, and the main themes radiate outward with subcategories attached to their respective themes.

Sometimes hate may be very useful. Yes, I mean it. When you pull off your negative emotions on something absolutely unconnected with your family or friends, it saves them from your rage.
It is bad when you hate people. However, you may hate personalities. Not real people, but their public appearances. If you do think that Mr. XXX is not a very good economist, and you do hate the policy he runs while he is in the government, why not express you rage? After all, public judgements help people stop and look backwards at what they’ve done.
Of course, it won’t do if you run the streets and yell “I hate Mr. XXX! He is such a jerk!” But you can express your opinion in the most readable and facts-supported way. If your copy of “I hate Mr. XXX for this, this and this” appears on a website accessible to other Internet users, who knows, maybe they’ll support you and there would be a noticeable impact on the things you discuss.
When expressing your negative opinion on someone, make sure you prove it. Writings like “I hate this because I hate this!” don’t deserve much attention from the readers and they actually don’t enjoy this attention. Be just. Try to explain why you think this or that is bad and who may be responsible for that. Even if you are to explode from anger, don’t be offensive. Remember: nothing personal. Hate is OK when it hits no one caring.
There are quite a few websites on the Internet that are devoted to posting the printed expressions of hate. If a person wants their opinion to appear on such website, they need to submit a copy to the editorial department and soon the text will appear on the website pages.
Yaroslav Shakula is the editor-in-chief of ihatethis.org I Hate This Organization. He is experienced in seo-copywriting and now is working on a scientific project devoted to the hate expressed online.

The technique used to separate organelles is referred to as Ultracentrifugation or Subcellular Fractionation. It is used to extract undamaged organelles from tissue and separate them so they structure and Biochemistry can be studied in a greater detail under an electron microscope. The process starts with tissue, in this case leaf tissue first being sliced into fine pieces with scissors or a scalpel to decrease size. Fine strips of tissue will then be placed in a test tube.
Cells contain enzymes (proteins) which are static in numerous parts of the cell, if the cell is to be burst these enzymes will start digesting the cell or organelles that they do not normally interact with, so an ice cold environment is used and an ice cold chemical solution called a buffer is added to the tissue, these in term decrease enzyme activity (enzymes become rigid at low temperatures). With the risk of digestion by means of enzymes gone a homogeniser, a fine brush that fits the test tube perfectly and spins (has a slight resemblance to a kitchen blender), is used to burst the cells and create a mixture of organelles. Before continuing the process the mixture is filtered to remove impurities, leaving only the organelles.
The mixture will be placed in an ultracentrifuge; a machine that spins at rapid speeds, thus increasing the gravitational field, this causes the organelles to separate according to size and density. The heavier organelles for example the nuclei will ‘sink’ to the bottom of the test tube at lower speeds (around 800 rpm) while ribosomes require speeds of around 3,000 rpm and upwards. The collection of organelles at the bottom of the test tube is known as a pellet, this will be separated from the supernatant (mixture of organelles still in the test tube). This step will be repeated numerous times until the organelle wanted is separated.
Although the process in the ultracentrifuge is quite accurate some impurities, i.e. Other Organelles of similar size and density can be mixed with in the pellet, so a process known as density sucrose gradient separation is used. A solution of sucrose is placed in the ultracentrifuge with the impure pellet and by diffusion of sucrose the impurities and wanted sample are separated according to density and mass.

Solar panels are basically a panel that uses the sun’s energy to produce electricity. Solar panels harvest sunlight and convert it to electricity that can power lights and appliances just the ones that you use in your house. Solar Cells, or photovoltaic cells, are arranged in a grid-like pattern on the surface of the solar panel. These solar voltaic cells collect sunlight during the daylight hours and covert it into electricity. Solar panels in the past have been mostly with silicon, which is used in computers as well. More recently solar panels have used other materials and metals because the cost of silicon is starting to rise as competetion for this precious material is becoming fierce while supply is not increasing.
And still other solar panels are made with a different kind of silicon alloy in a rolling process. The solar cells created in this way can be more strong, produce more watts of electricity, and they are thinner which makes them weigh less. This can be very important for applications like solar cars. Finally, NASA and other goverment sponsored space programs use a very expensive solar panel made from gallium arsenide via a sophisticated and expensive procedure. Solar cells made this way produce alot of electricity for their size and weight, but they are much too expensive for anyone other than the government to buy.
Lately, a whole new type of solar panel is being made from plastic which are promising because they are much cheaper to produce. I’ll be writing more on this as more is made available to the public about them. However, for now allow me to dream about the different ways this could be used. Suppose you want to power your laptop in a remote location, or use a GPS device while backpacking in the wilderness for an extended period of time. These plastic solar panels could power just about any appliance that you use in your home out in a remote location.
The amount of power solar panels produce is determined by the quality of the solar panel and the materials and technology used in making the solar panel. When buying solar panels, most people expect to pay about 4 or 5 dollars a watt. The price will slowly, but surely come down in price over time. More and more companies are starting to research and develop solar panels with exciting new discoveries and developments that are starting to shine light on the solar panel industry. If you pay attention to the stock market you will notice that there are many publically traded solar panel based companies now that you can invest in. To name a few there is Daystar DSTI, XSunX XSNX, WorldWater WWAT.
Currently, solar panels are very popular in remote locations and recreation vehicles, but this is changing. Solar Panels are now becoming popular in urban areas where clean energy advocates and law makers are creating incentives for this clean, safe, and quiet alnernative energy source. I can imagine a day where housetops will all be covered with mini powerplants in the form of solar panels. This will be a great and beautiful thing for a number of reasons. This will put power in the hands of the individual property owner. No longer will you be at the mercy of the power company to raise rates on you. Even if you don’t choose to put solar panels on your house to zero your electricity bill, you will also benefit. Power companies will have to lower their rates due to the increased competetion from the home based mini solar panel powerplant. This will be good for national security and protect us from terrorists. If solar panels don’t take off and replace nuclear power, our planet will become an easy target for terrorist who will then have thousands of nuclear power plants to target for their next attack. Also, we will be stuck with an untold amount of radioactive waste to dispose of. And, nobody wants this stuff stored in their backyard or even anywhere in their state. It reduces property value and creates anxiety over possible messy leaks and exposure.
There is much more to be written about this subject, so please visit my website for more information about solar panels: solarpanel.be solarpanel.be

Two of Sarah’s favorite subjects in secondary school were biology and chemistry. This teenager enjoyed the complexities of the human body similar to how a computer operates.
The guidance counselor in school noticed the high scores in the field of science. After talking with Sarah, it wasn’t hard to see that this person will become a nurse after graduation.
There are not that many universities that offer nursing as a degree. This made Sarah decide to enroll in a licensed vocation nursing school instead that can be finished in two years making this person earn money while others are still toiling in the classroom.
Months before graduation, Sarah already did some research on the web. This will give the woman time to check which vocational schools are the best ones around. After typing in “nursing schools” in the search engine, a number of these institutions came out and it was time to get more information.
Most of the licensed vocational nursing schools will want the person to fill in the application form. This will also ask which location where the individual would like to study in and what specialization. Since Sarah did not know yet anything about nursing, it is best to go for the first, which is the certified nurses’ assistant.
People who start a career in nursing and start out, as an assistant will report to a head nurse. This person will learn how to give emotional and physical support to the patient.
Bryman College located in Anaheim, California is one of the schools that offer training to students both in the classroom and hands on. This institution calls the program the Vocational Nursing Certificate or LVN that can be finished in 18 to 24 months.
Another school is the Careers Networks Institute located in Costa Mesa, which is part of Orange County also in California. Those who graduate can work as a nursing assistant or choose to another course to further go up the corporate ladder.
Western Career College located in Sacramento is another institution that offers vocational nursing. People who pass the course and the licensing exam can then work as a nurse in any hospital or clinic in the country. Though some states require another licensing exam, this will already be easy once the student has some experience dealing with patients.
The institutions mentioned are just some of more than 30 other institutions scattered all around the United States. The person should check the nearest campus or move there in order to be come a certified professional from a licensed vocational nursing school.

One of the best times in a teen’s life is when they get their drivers license. This license is the key for their travel anywhere they desire without any parental rules. The drivers license also states that these young adults have advanced to another era of their life. Before these teens can get their hands on a car, they must go through with one more educational course. This is drivers ed. This all also depends on your state.
Now for those of you who might be confused drivers ed is truly named drivers education. This is a course that any adolescent who is sixteen years or older can take in their high schools and is many times offered through independent companies as well. Drivers ed is a great course and involves the following elements:
* The various ways of driving a vehicle
* Care that is to inevitably be taken
* The road rules in your state
* Insurance requirements
* What needs to be done if you are purchasing a car
This list is by no means all that can be covered in the course. Every state has different elements they incorporate depending on their laws, weather conditions and insurance requirements, just to name a few factors.
With the theoretical courses in the drivers ed classes there is a practical aspect that is offered. This is the pragmatic driving lessons you can take. These driving lessons will help you to realize the best way of driving. They will teach you the aspects of being observant, the conditions of driving in traffic, highway courtesy, parking and all other driving aspects are covered in these practical lessons.
One other factor that is covered in drivers ed is that of what you should do if you are caught for speeding or any other misdemeanor. These are important to know and understand as there is a large possibility of your getting caught for a traffic violation.
While drivers ed is a great way to learn about driving, you should you can augment these lessons with some practice. The best way to have this practice session without breaking the law and getting into trouble is to fix a learner ‘L’ board to your car. This will inform the rest of the public that you are learning to drive. Again, check with you local city laws to find out what needs to be done in order to test drive.
Also the police will sympathize if you make any mistakes while you are getting the hang of driving on the city streets. You should sooner or later have a responsible grownup with you as most states don’t allow unlicensed drivers to drive on the streets unattended. If you feel that you are making any type of error you can always find out the answer to these from your drivers ed instructor or by looking online.
While there are many ways of learning about driving, learning to drive properly can help you obviate trouble. The various drivers ed classes have been especially made to aid new drivers with learning to drive safely. Contact one and begin to learn driving today.
And remember, driving can be challenging when you just begin. However, just like riding a bike, the more you do it the better you get. Pay attention, be observant and always be safe.

Professional certification is an issue for many occupations. There are numerous schools, colleges, and universities that offer programs providing the professional expertise required to achieve certification in a variety of interesting fields.
Professional Certification Schools provide certification to paralegals, teachers, building contractors and inspectors, wedding planners and consultants, accountants, designers, computer and information technology specialists, real estate agents, and many more. Some professions also require continuing education for professional certification.
All states require teachers to be certified, whether they have bachelor or master level degrees, and to earn recertification periodically to keep abreast of their professions. Many states also require those in the medical field to gain certification, and to earn recertification in their fields. Professional Certification Schools provide courses for various levels and degrees of certification and recertification, including graduate level certification in some fields. Many also provide examinations and grant professional certificates upon satisfactory completion.
For instance, National Park and Recreation professionals can greatly benefit from professional certification in the industry. Opportunities for participation in educational programs for professional certification in the parks and recreation field are provided by some specialized institution programs. Students can gain insights into future trends in the parks and recreation field, and form strategies for developing programs to meet future needs.

Students attending Texas Public Schools have many choices. They literally have a plethora of magnet programs to choose from. Depending on their grade level, they can choose to attend a school that focuses on providing the “3 Rs” with a slant; the Arts, Science, Technology and Foreign Language are all examples of the different types of Texas Schools that kids and their parents can choose from.
But what is a magnet school, anyway? A magnet school is a one that, while meeting the educational needs of its students by following state standards, also offers students the chance to study in a unique way. In the beginning, magnet schools were begun with the intent of ending racial segregation. Kids of all economic backgrounds could attend any school they wanted to. In some school systems, like the one that serves many Texas Schools, additional magnet programs have been developed at facilities in locations that parents may have found less than desirable without the magnet option being in place. Instituting magnet programs in Texas Schools has both attracted voluntary enrollment and achieved the desired racial balance.
What are your options? Well, there are magnet programs all throughout the Texas Schools educational system. All students – elementary, middle, and high school – can choose to attend a magnet program. Some Texas Schools programs “feed” into one another; elementary Texas Schools students who attend a performing arts magnet, for example, can continue on to a performing arts middle and high school. Many parents want to ensure their child’s academic success, and that is where the Texas Schools magnet program truly shines.
Say your child is really interested in computers. I don’t mean they just like to play computer games. This kid understands all the latest technology, gets excited about tech news, and may have even taken the family PC apart. Well, the little tyke needs to attend a Science and Technology magnet program at one of the Texas Schools! The choice of programs that Texas Schools offer is truly staggering. Following is a sample of some choices in Texas Schools in Dallas and Houston:
Visual Arts (grades 4-5)
Leadership (grades 4-5)
Arts (grades 7-8)
Environmental Science
Math & Science; Tech & Spanish
Career Exploratory
Architecture & Graphic Design
Law
Languages; Physical Development
Health Professions
Meteorology & Space Sciences
Education & Social Services
Leadership Academy
Business & Management
International Studies
Why should you choose a Texas Schools magnet for your child? I confess that I never knew until it was time for my own children to enroll in school. For our family, sending the kids to a magnet school was a better option than attending our “neighborhood school”. Our children attend a Performing Arts magnet; this choice reflecting my desire to give the kids some early exposure to the arts, since I studied music through college. For my husband, this was a chance to give his children a chance that he never had – exposure to an arts education.
