A Quick Start Guide to Auto Darkening Welding Helmets 0

Jul 31, 2008 | Uncategorized

If you are a welder you are most likely concerned with your safety. You take precautions by wearing a helmet while welding, but what type of helmet do you have? The type of helmet you wear can greatly affect your eye safety. Welders are all too familiar with the possibility of an arc flash. Exposure to the intense arc flash can cause serious harm to your eyes including retinal burns. Therefore, it is imperative to find an auto darkening welding helmet.

What should you look for in an auto darkening welding helmet? First, verify that the helmet meets the ANSI Z87.1 standard. This standard guarantees that the helmet will provide the proper protection against the arc flash. You can choose a lens shade that will suit your comfort level and needs. Ensure that you wear the helmet properly in the down position when you weld.

Welding helmets can change shade by solar powered or battery operated means. What are the differences between these two methods? Solar powered shades change when a change in light intensity is detected. They are designed to automatically darken from the arc. Battery operated shades must be turned on by the welder to operate like the solar powered shades.

Helmet specifications can be analyzed before making a purchase. You can research specifications including viewing area, UV/IR protection, switching speed, power supply, operating temperature, weight, price, and much more. More detailed information regarding each specification can be found on many manufacturers’ websites.

Find a helmet that feels comfortable atop your head for extended periods of time. You might want to invest in a helmet that has a sensor bar if you work in close proximity of other welders. The sensor bar will help to alleviate any false alarm darkening of your helmet due to neighboring welders.

Where can I find an auto darkening welding helmet? Auto darkening welding helmets are sold through many stores, online retailers, and even on Internet auction websites such as eBay. Prices can range from under $100 to over $200. Helmets are produced by different manufacturers and contain a wide range of features. You can even purchase a helmet called the Hobart Hood Premium 770262 Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet. It comes in a Stars & Stripes version. This helmet has the American flag painted on it.

There are plenty of Internet resources available to search for your perfect welding helmet. You can find welding helmets that align with your welding duties. An array of options is at your fingertips.

Overview of Geothermal Energy 0

Jul 31, 2008 | Uncategorized

As we look to alternative energy sources for our power hungry world, geothermal energy is getting attention. Here is a brief overview of geothermal energy.

There are many different types of energy available to power our world. For years, people have used the power of burning fossil fuels, such as coal (also used to produce steam power) to create energy. In recent times, there has been a shift to using renewable resources to create the energy we need. These resources include hydroelectric power, solar power, wind power, biomass energy and geothermal energy. While many people know about the first four of these resources, geothermal energy is less well-known.

The word geothermal comes from two Greek words, “geo” and “therme”. These words mean “earth” and “heat”, which pretty much describes what geothermal energy is. Geothermal energy is energy that comes from the heat of the Earth, deep underground. The Earth’s core, where chemical reactions create massive amounts of heat, is 4,000 miles below the Earth’s surface. In this core, temperatures can reach up to 9,000 degrees Fahrenheit, and this extreme heat can be used to produce energy.

While these are the basics of geothermal energy, there are many other parts in the process to make this sort of energy usable. We can’t tap directly into the Earth’s core to receive this heat, for many reasons. So instead, people must create systems that harness the residual heat that is in the magma (molten rock) under the Earth’s crust. This heat is able to be used by tapping into the water reservoirs that are within the magma – these water stores can reach up to 700 degrees Fahrenheit. Think of Old Faithful in Yellowstone.

A well can be drilled down into the superheated water contained within the Earth’s magma - the geothermal reservoir. Once these geothermal reservoirs are tapped into, the heated water and steam can rise to the surface, and be used to power geothermal power plants as well as in smaller scale projects for personal household use. When used in geothermal power plants, the steam from the heated underground water is often used to power turbines, which then generate energy which can be harnessed as electricity.

By using the Earth’s own heat and water, energy can be created that can be used on a small or large scale. This renewable resource (you can’t deplete the Earth’s heat!) is also cleaner and safer than many other types of energy, making it a great type of ecologically sound energy source.

Education - No Child Left Behind 0

Jul 31, 2008 | Uncategorized

In the ever growing war between educators, No Child Left Behind is probably one of the most hotly contested topics in the world of education today. Nobody can seem to agree on it and it’s no wonder, because it’s a rather radical concept that years ago would have been unthinkable. In this article we’re going to present both sides of the argument but in no way will we try to determine who is right and who is wrong. We’ll leave that decision to history itself.

No Child Left Behind, the act, was instituted in 2001. One of the biggest problems with No Child Left Behind is that most people don’t really understand what it means. Parents are under the impression that it means their child is not allowed to be kept back in school if his grades are poor. This is not true at all. No Child Left Behind was instituted so that the poorer districts could give their children the same level and quality of education as children in the richer districts. To achieve this end, the poorer districts are allocated a certain amount of additional funds. These funds increase a certain percentage each year. Since the act was instituted, the average dollar amount allocated has risen from $13,500,000,000 in 2002 to an estimated $25,000,000,000 in 2007.

But there is a catch to this. And this is where the arguments come in. In order to qualify for this funding, schools have to have a certain percentage of students pass the standardized tests that are given each year. Currently, those tests are only given to high school children. Future plans for No Child Left Behind are to have these tests given to every child in every grade.

The arguments for this procedure is that children will all be taught the same material and therefore will all have the same education. If a child doesn’t pass the standardized test by his last year of high school then he must either go to summer school and pass it or repeat his last year of high school. Those for this say it will make sure that every child who does graduate from school is prepared for the outside world. By making the money given dependent on these test scores, this forces the schools themselves to focus on what they consider the core contents. This makes sure that every kid is properly educated.

Those against No Child Left Behind argue that the money allocated to the school districts should not be dependent on how well the students do. Their argument is that children in poorer districts do poorly because they are poor and the money should be given to them regardless of test scores. They view this as a catch 22, which most teachers in the poorer districts seem to agree with.

As to where this money actually goes, that would take a book to explain. Suffice it to say that portions of this huge amount are divided up among many areas including Comprehensive School Reform, Advanced Placement, School Improvement, School Dropout Prevention and the list goes on and on. This is where another argument comes in. Most teachers feel this money is being wasted and should go to teachers salaries and text books, where the money is really needed.

If you’d like to do more research into No Child Left Behind, the entire act is posted on the government educational web site. Enjoy!

Medical Schools 0

Jul 31, 2008 | Uncategorized

It goes without saying that an aspiring doctor will first have to go to medical school. This refers to any kind of educational facility that offers recognized training courses in medical science. The object in attending them is to obtain the qualification and certification necessary to practice a medical profession.

In America, an aspiring doctor must undergo a four-year training and qualifying period at a recognized medical school. For medical students, medical school follows the obtaining of a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree.

Medical schools are meant to be finishing schools that fine-tune prior medical knowledge and train the student in the medical profession. Those who do not intend to go further than general practice and are content with being primary care physicians will still have to spend at least two to three years in medical school. The period can extend to eight years for those who wish to specialize in a more lucrative branch of the medical profession.

It is not easy to obtain admission to a reputable medical school, and the specifically designed Medical School Admissions Test (MCAT) acts as the primary weeding-out instrument. It is necessary to target and prepare for medical school from the earliest years of college, since admission criteria call for a variety of training modules.

Once admission has been obtained, two years of academic instruction are followed by the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1. This examination establishes whether the student has assimilated academic instructions appropriately. If passed, the student is assigned to an actual medical establishment for a two-year period of observation. Clinical competence is verified by the USMLE Step 2 examination.

Naturopathy Colleges 0

Jul 30, 2008 | Uncategorized

In modern times, prospective students may choose to enroll in one of several Naturopathy Colleges to earn their Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Degree. Usually offering four-year programs in naturopathy, Naturopathy Colleges train students to become holistic and natural care doctors.

Providing health education that seeks to not only to diagnose and treat patients, Naturopathy Colleges use a practical and academic approach that believes in evaluating the “whole” person when treatment is necessary. Students of Naturopathy Colleges will learn a great deal about this ancient healing system of medicine, which is derived from a variety of historical societies (Arabian, Ayurvedic, Chinese, Egyptian, European, and Greek).

While naturopathy is more well-known today as a form of natural and alternative medicine, one of the first Naturopathy Colleges was founded in 1902. Since that time, naturopathic medicine has grown to become quite popular. This has led to growth in Naturopathy Colleges and schools to accommodate the demand for students desiring to become naturopathic doctors.

Most four-year courses at Naturopathy Colleges are very comprehensive and intense. Common curriculums offered through Naturopathy Colleges include introductory classes in anatomy and physiology, and theories and philosophies of naturopathy. Second, third, and fourth year courses offered at Naturopathy Colleges are normally comprised of naturopathy and pathology studies, herbal and botanical medicine, bodywork, nutrition, homeopathy, and clinical and laboratory studies. For example, students that attend Naturopathy Colleges will gain an in-depth look into how homeopathic medicine is a medicine where “like cures like.” They will learn how to use this medicine to help promote body, mind, and spirit healing. Students that attend Naturopathy Colleges will ultimately be prepared to sit for state licensing exams.

In many cases, successful graduates of Naturopathy Colleges go onto opening their own private practices. others may elect to work in integrative health and wellness centers or holistic oncology clinics. Since career potential is virtually unlimited, traditional practitioners may wish to enroll in one of many naturopathic colleges to attain extended education in this medicinal practice to broaden their scope of professionalism and patient services.

Science Fiction by Arthur C Clarke 0

Jul 30, 2008 | Uncategorized

It is difficult to have a discussion with someone about science fiction if they are not familiar with the works of Arthur C Clarke. The concepts are not too awfully difficult to understand and not nearly as complex as reading Issac Asimov for the science fiction novice and anyone can enjoy Mr. Clarke’s works. If you are interested in science fiction, I recommend this set of audio tapes:

The Arthur C Clarke Collection, including “2001 A Space Odyssey” “Transit of Earth” “Fountains of Paradise” and “Childhood’s Earth”

They are available all together in one easy to listen to collection. It will be an excellent review of Arthur C Clarke’s works. Arthur C Clarke is one of the great science fiction writers of all time and much of his work is now been set as a goal for scientists to make into reality. It was a pleasure to review all of these works in this rather long audio series and there was rarely a dull moment. It is interesting to see how the science fiction of yesterday becomes the reality of today and how the same science fiction today is becoming closer and closer to tomorrows reality. It was read in the authors voice and it made it that much more real. Arthur C Clark is not only brilliant, but we are lucky to have had him on the planet. Order these audio tapes today and you will be glad you did.

Let’s Learn Almeda 0

Jul 30, 2008 | Uncategorized

No student may claim a tension-free life in today’s cut-throat competition. While some by the grace of God and sheer grit outsmart the competition and get a degree from a reputable college, there is left behind a majority who has to struggle a lot to find a decent job for want of a degree.

While they grow in the world with experience, they still are considered inferior to their degreed counterparts. Why? Even they have grown in terms of skills, and in terms of experience they may even outsmart a fresher. Then why not give them their deserved?

Almeda University is one-of-its-kind initiative aimed at helping out those who were left behind. Contrary to the general perspective of Almeda, Almeda University is NOT your run-of-the-mill “diploma mill”.

First off, the age bar for admission is between 35 and 54. So what? So this - Almeda University will NOT admit any and everybody who wants a degree like other “diploma mills”. Ever heard of a “diploma mill” asking candidates to write a Thesis or Dissertation to prove their worthiness for admission?

Think about it, for that is what Almeda University requires of its candidates before approving their admission into the University. Ever heard of a “diploma mill” offering a full refund, and standing by it? Ever heard of a “diploma mill” offering exemplary customer service? At Almeda, you will get to hear all of it.

Check degreeinspector.com/Almeda.html” target=”_blank this report. It clearly shows how Almeda stands by its policies and also its endeavor to reward only serious candidates - you can’t fleece your way through the college just by saying, “I have 9 years of experience working at such and such place.” Thou shalt be rewarded rejection in promptu.

Think over it. If need be, read this all over again. But try not calling Almeda a ‘diploma mill’ again. For you know it by now, it is not.

Philippines Economy 0

Jul 30, 2008 | Uncategorized

Despite the fact that the Philippines were once the wealthiest country in Asia, after Japan, it has slowly become one of the poorest in the region since it gained independence in 1946. The economy further declined in the early 1980s on account of the reduced demand for Philippine products, the United States’ pullout, and an increased rate of corruption. A projected 10% of the GNP was lost to corruption and capitalism during this period. The economic recovery since then has been noteworthy but slow in comparison to other East Asian nations. According to the GDP per capita, the Philippines at present ranks 118th out of 178 states.

The financial system of the Philippines particularly had trouble during the Asian monetary emergency of 1998. Increasing prices, inflation, and poor weather aggravated these poor economic conditions. Economic development fell from 5% in 1997 to 0.6% in 1998; however, it improved to about 3% in 1999 and 4% in 2000, and by 2004 it rose to above 6% per year. Budgetary provisions for servicing debt in the Philippines were higher than the budget for education and defense together.

Income disparity also remains a grave problem in the country. The Philippines continues to be a largely agricultural country; however, light industry and services have made noteworthy contributions. In the past few years, there have been noticeable developments in the Philippines as the number of business process outsourcing (BPO) industries has increased. With the introduction of the BPO industries, there have been considerable boosts in the rate of employment. This has given rise to various job opportunities for the Filipinos. There are approximately 500 companies in the Philippines that have improved the quality of service by providing jobs. The Philippines is among the many countries that house the leading BPO industries.

The Philippines is among the countries associated with the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and the Asian Development Bank. In the year 2005, the peso was known as Asia’s best performing currency.

SpaceHab Expandables to Be Delivered via Space Shuttle 0

Jul 29, 2008 | Uncategorized

Why can’t we simply put a bunch of SpaceHab expandables into the Space Shuttle and take them to the Mars to orbit now? But you say the Space Shuttle cannot make it that far? Well sure it can. Simply send a set of rockets up on another set of rockets, once in orbit attach them to the space shuttle and then take the whole thing to Mars; one way. Get some real gung ho risk takers and just go for it. We can do this.

The humans can live in them for about 10-years or so until we get there with the next manned mission. Meanwhile they can collect data, do experiments and control all the rovers there. An orbiting mini-space colony flying above Mars and while we are at it, we can have one land on Mars too and get started now. Now in 2035 or some such future date; that is such a crock of crap and such a cop-out to the abilities and intelligence levels of our upper end human scale of intelligence.

Look here is the deal, I have traveled much in my life and I know most humans are not so smart and feel comfortable to live in mediocrity, but that is not what the species is about. We can do better than this and it should be obvious that it is true. Now then do not accuse me of being anti-Bush Administration, as I am not. Do not accuse me of being anti-NASA, because well I am not that either.

You see, I am an entrepreneur and I see the world differently. When everyone else says it cannot be done, I know it can. I am not comfortable with the BS time table of the moon by 2020 or Mars by 2035, that is weak. The United States of America is not a weak nation and Americans are not weak people. Now let’s get off our rear ends and press on and get this done. Talk is cheap. There is a mountain in front of us, let’s just climb it dammit!

College Degrees and Online College Degrees 0

Jul 29, 2008 | Uncategorized

College degrees are a necessity in today’s society where education is needed to make a livable salary or to receive a promotion before another degreed employee receives it. Many professionals are returning to school via the Internet to get their online college degrees. Online college degrees enable an employed worker to attend classes and receive credit for advanced education while keeping their job and allowing for flexibility in scheduling to meet their personal and family responsibilities. Adult students make up 50% of students returning to school for their college degrees.

Schools offering college degrees should be aware of adult students’ needs and cater to them. Many employers will reimburse their workers for attending an educational institute that offers higher college degrees than a 4 year college would. College degrees are no longer available for the privileged few, they are mandatory for employment in many businesses and companies. An interview will not even be granted to applicants in most companies without college degrees. Many students are returning to school for online college degrees to gain better employment conditions and a higher salary.

Advanced education opens doors for people, and allows them to obtain satisfying and engaging employment in their field of interest. There are college degrees offered in every subject area imaginable. Certain college degrees are necessary before moving upwards in the educational realm, such as a teaching degree is required before a teacher can receive state certification. Many online college degrees base their subject matter in the business area, however, more and more options are becoming available for those interested in receiving online college degrees.

Online college degrees also offer financial aid and other sources of educational funding. While relatively new and accepted, online college degrees offer a hands on approach to learning. Subjects that are taught within the online college degrees programs can be immediately applied to the work setting. In fact there are projects that mandate implementation within a students work setting. Online college degrees are gaining more and more popularity as the year’s progress. With advancing technology and the demand for college degrees in general growing higher and higher, it is no wonder that 8 out of 10 returning adult students opt for receiving online college degrees.
