If you never had the opportunity to attend university as a full-time student, you will be pleased to learn that you can obtain your bachelors degree through distance learning. Now as always, it is not possible for everyone who finishes high school to go directly on to university. Sometimes, students at the end of their secondary education have not acquired a high enough academic standing, or they or their families cannot afford to incur the costs of tuition, books, supplies, food and accommodation necessary over four years to complete a standard undergraduate program.
As a result, some people enter the workforce directly at this point, while others might go on to obtain at least some college credits before they must, for whatever reason, join the workforce. In many cases however, people soon discover that a large number of jobs, even those at an entry level, are just not available to them because many employers expect their potential employees to have completed a bachelors degree as a minimum acceptable qualification for consideration.
In many instances it doesn’t even matter to the employer what discipline or subject area the person has studied at university. What is important is that the person has demonstrated that they have the determination and skills to complete a prolonged regimen of program requirements, deadlines, and other obstacles, thus signaling that they are indeed worth hiring. So, many people find themselves in a dilemma over the need to work and the need to be educated, but it is one that has a solution.
It is now possible to obtain a bachelors degree through distance learning, in a vast array of disciplines, from anywhere in the country, or from anywhere in the world for that matter. Counselors can assist students in determining what program or subject areas would be right for them, given their background and interests. Often, it is better that a student enrolls in a program that is suited to him or her rather than trying to anticipate what a potential employer might be looking for. Remember that successful completion of the program is the most important factor.
Many institutions will admit adult students to their programs on a trial basis, so poor high school grades or long absence from formal schooling are not a problem. Universities have established specialized support mechanisms for their distance learning students, so that even though students will be studying from home, they can feel like they are part of a community of higher learning, with access to most of the same academic resources as their fellow students on campus. Students can work at their own pace, ensuring that school does not interfere with work and family obligations.
It can take several years to complete a bachelors degree through distance learning, but this should not serve to discourage potential students. Very often employers will provide financial incentives, such as reimbursement of tuition costs, for successful course completion, and they will sometimes reward employees with promotion opportunities, at various stages throughout their program. In the end, you will have obtained a bachelors degree, and the fact that you obtained it through a distance learning program may even prove to be an advantage.

If you have just graduated from high school or have been thinking of going back to college to finish your course but have no financial resources, then, you must consider applying for a college scholarship. So if you don’t know where to go, here re the places and ways to look into:
The Internet
The internet has something for everyone. Even for you for those who need help to finance their college education. In the internet, there are sites that offer college scholarships. These sites are either your local government, College or University itself, some non-government institutions, or a collective people who gathers finances to help someone like you. The internet also has some helpful articles to make your college scholarship application easier and make the scholarship grant closer to your hand.
The High School Academic Guidance Counselor
Before the end of the school term, most colleges and universities contact or go to high both public and private schools to offer scholarships for graduating students. Usually, the academic guidance counselor takes hold of the application forms. All you have to do is to approach the office and ask for scholarship forms.
Colleges and Universities
If you excel in athletics, academics, art, and stage, colleges and universities give you special scholarships. Inquiring for this would be a good way to start. Most of the times though, these types of college scholarships are either automatically given to a certain students or selected through a roster of students.
Or, if you are not that athletic or not that excellent in academics, colleges and universities provide financial aids. These aids will slash off some percentage of the total price you have to pay for the year. Both the financial aid and scholarship will continue provided that you can maintain a certain average.
The Local Government
One of the best college scholarship grants that are both reliable and efficient is from the local government. Since local governments allocate funds for financing a certain number of students in a year, it is almost assured that you get one of the slots. Added to this, a government scholar has the privilege to immediately land a job after graduation. And this usually comes with the scholarship contract.
Institutions and Corporations
There are institutions and corporations that offer scholarships for students with both academic skills and financial problems. Look into this. Search of institutions and corporations that offer scholarships you can apply for.

To ensure public protection, the United States and its territories require entry into the practice of nursing to be regulated by licensing authorities within each jurisdiction. Each jurisdiction requires all candidates for licensure as entry-level nurses to pass an examination which assesses the knowledge required to perform safely and effectively. NCLEX stands for The National Council Licensure Examination which is a standardized exam used by each state board of nursing to determine if RN or LPN/LVN candidates are competent for entry-level nursing practice.
There are two NCLEX tests offered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN): the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses - NCLEX-RN ® and the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses - NCLEX-PN ® . The NCLEX-RN is for registered nurse candidates while the NCLEX-PN is for practical and vocational nurses. The main difference between the two tests is the number and difficulty of correctly answered questions required to pass the exam. The States and territorial boards of nursing use these exams in making licensure decisions.
The NCLEX-RN has 265 questions and the minimum number you need to answer is 75. The NCLEX-PN has 205 questions and the minimum number you need to answer is 85. Both tests require an understanding of nursing practice and cover the following categories of client needs:
Safe, Effective Care Environment
Management of Care
Safety and Infection Control
Health Promotion and Maintenance
Growth and Development Through the Life Span
Prevention and Early Detection of Disease
Psychosocial Integrity
Coping and Adaptation
Psychosocial Adaptation
Physiological Integrity
Basic Care and Comfort
Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies
Reduction of Risk Potential
Physiological Adaptation
The NCLEX exams are administered using Computerized Adaptive Testing – CAT. There is a six hour limit for NCLEX-RN and a five hour time limit for NCLEX-PN which includes time for the computer tutorial and breaks.
Using this method (CAT) each exam is unique and the questions are retrieved from a database as the exam progresses. The computer measures the ability of the candidate using the answers provided previously and changes the difficulty and topic of the new questions accordingly - if you answer correctly the computer will select harder questions and if you are answer incorrectly it will choose easier questions. The software estimates your ability every time you provide the answer to a question and with each new answer you provide the estimate of your ability gets more precise.
The exam software selects questions that it believes you will have a close to 50% chance of answering correctly – not too hard or too easy for the ability it believes you have. This is done so that a well prepared candidate will be asked more difficult questions thus having a good chance of passing the exam by answering the minimum number of questions while less prepared candidates are not forced to guess the answers to questions too difficult for them. The expected number of correct answers is half the total number of questions you are presented with because of the adaptive nature of the test.
After you answer the minimum number of questions for the exam the software will analyze your performance and it may shut-down the computer. This means that you either passed or failed the exam. The computer will shut-down only when the program running the test has determined with 95% certainty that your ability is either above or below the passing standard.
The only way to get additional questions is if you are very close to the passing score – either 2.5% above or 2.5% below it. If this is the case you should not worry about failing but instead should concentrate on answering correctly the next set of questions. You must understand that you are very close to passing the exam if you answer most questions correctly from this point on. You must answer the maximum number of questions on the exam only if at the end of each set of questions you are within the 2.5% above or below the passing score. The time you spend on each question is not an important factor with regard to passing but you should answer the required number of questions in the allotted time.
If you are required to answer the maximum number of questions and the computer still isn’t 95% sure you can pass, the 95% confidence requirement is dropped. If at this point you have a score higher than the minimum required you pass the exam otherwise you fail. If you run out of time and did not answer the minimum number of questions required you fail automatically. If you run out of time but you answered the minimum number of questions required and for the last 60 questions your score was never below the passing standard you pass otherwise you fail the exam. This does not mean that you have to answer the last 60 questions correctly but only that at any point during the last 60 questions your score was above the minimum required to pass the exam. You can think about it this way: for each correct answer add one to your score while for each incorrect answer subtract one. Adding your scores one at a time for each question answered should never result in a negative score in order for you to pass if you run out of time but you have answered the minimum number of questions required.
The NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN questions are mostly multiple-choice questions with four answers. In some cases the NCLEX exam uses more difficult question formats such as multiple-choice questions that require you to select one or more correct answers, fill-in-the-blank questions or questions that require you to identify an area on a picture. Both exams cover mostly the same topics but the NCLEX-RN is more difficult.
You must apply to your state board of nursing in order to take the NCLEX examination. That board of nursing will decide whether or not you are eligible for the NCLEX examination. If you are eligible you must register to take the exam using the Authorization to Take the Test (ATT) provided by the board of nursing in your state. They will also provide you with a list of testing centers and instructions for how to schedule and take the licensure examination.
Here are a couple of things you might want to consider if you are taking the NCLEX exam:
attend an NCLEX review class to refresh your knowledge
always read and understand the entire question before answering it
answer and understand 3000 - 4000 practice questions
you can’t change an answer once you moved to another question so forget about it – good or bad what it is done is done so it is better to concentrate on the current question instead of pondering if you were right or wrong
always pick the answer you believe is best – the test is not designed to trick you but good reading and comprehension skill are required
always think about the safety of the patient when answering the NCLEX questions
After you take the test you will have to wait for the results. The time you need to wait depends on how the results are reported in your state: mail, online, phone or email. If you fail the test you will receive a summary of your test performance indicating topics where you did well and topics that you need to study further. You will be able to take the test again after a mandatory waiting period (usually 45 days) which may vary from state to state.
Good luck!

Oh, that field of math. Don’t you just love to hate it? Yet you have to admit that when someone explains some of its beauty to you and you get it, you marvel at how amazing a field it actually is.
Such is the case with number sequences and in particular one called the Fibonacci sequence. For those who do not know what a sequence is, it is simply a list of numbers that follow some predefined rule. For example, the sequence 2, 4, 6, 8 is the arithmetic sequence which is defined by multiples of the number 2. The Fibonacci sequence is the following: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13…Do you see the pattern. Well hold on if you don’t; what is more important—or should I say interesting—is could you ever have guessed that this sequence has something to do with sex appeal? Indeed. Read on.
If you were not able to see the pattern within the Fibonacci sequence, it is this: each successive Fibonacci number after the second is obtained by adding the two previous numbers in the sequence. Thus 3 = 1 2, 8 = 3 5, etc. Aside from the unusual appearance of these numbers within the realms of nature, as for example, such quantities as the number of black and white keys that form an octave on a standard piano are all Fibonacci numbers, and the number of spirals in the florets of a sunflower head are consecutive Fibonacci numbers; the quotient formed by consecutive numbers in this sequence get closer and closer to the golden ratio, and this is approximately 1.618.
Artists, musicians, and classical architects have been fascinated with this famous number, which seems to have a sex appeal all of its own. The ancient Greek sculptor Phidias, who created and oversaw the construction of the Parthenon in Athens, is believed to have used this golden rectangle concept in the facade of this famous architectural feat. Luca Pacioli, one of Da Vinci’s mathematics teachers, aroused great interest in the golden number in his work De Divina Proportione. Da Vinci used this work to bolster his claims that various aspects of the human body incorporated this golden number. For example, Da Vinci showed that the human face had proportions in accordance to the golden ratio. In order to show this, Da Vinci traced out golden rectangles on the face of an average human subject. One could suppose, that the more golden rectangles that could be traced out, the more aesthetically pleasing a person’s face was.
Obviously good looks are associated with an aesthetically appealing face. According to Luca Pacioli and Da Vinci’s propositions, the more closely one’s face adheres to proportions dictated by the golden ratio, the more aesthetically appealing a person is. Gee, now math is connected to sex appeal. How strange and curious this subject is! Yes. Sex appeal and math. You’ve got one, you’ve definitely got the other. All this sexy stuff found within a sequence of numbers that probably was found by some curious chap who decided to add 1 1 to get 2, and then said, hmmm, let’s add 2 1 to get 3, and so on. Next thing you know, these numbers a popping up all over the place from the piano keyboard to the face of a sunflower to the sex appeal of the human face. Wow, don’t you just love math!

Is it really possible to obtain an Accredited Graduate Degree Online?
In many professions or businesses, a Bachelor’s Degree is considered “basic knowledge.” You can normally find a job with a Bachelor’s Degree, but the job is often low paid and has limited advancement potential. You’re getting experience in your chosen field, nevertheless you’re stuck at the bottom of the ladder. You need to achieve a graduate degree to advance in your career.
That’s all well and good, but you are stuck at that low-paying job, and you have personal and financial obligations. Although you can’t just quit what you’re currently doing and go to graduate school, you can an accredited graduate degree online. It’s that something?
Although there is some bias against online Bachelor’s Degrees, it’s very desirable to get an accredited graduate degree online. Some well-respected, major universities offer accredited graduate degrees online, and an online degree from these colleges is equivalent to a traditional degree.
So, the short answer is, yes it is fully possible to get an accredited graduate degree online
You’ve made the decision to get a accredited degree, and looked at your options and decided an online degree is the best one for you. Now what? There are literally hundreds of places to obtain an accredited graduate degree online. How do you make your choice?
The first thing is to get rid of the hoaxes. High level education is already about as compressed as it can get, so not many places will give you credit for life experience. Any college school that gives you an advanced degree for little or no coursework is a hoax.
Next, look at the expense. It is harder to finance graduate or higher education than undergraduate education. It’s also harder for adults who have been out of school for a while to get a scholarship. There are, however, ways to finance your accredited degree. Fill out a FAFSA through the Department of Education to see if you qualify for any grants or loans. Check out if your employer has a tuition assistance plan. Search out each and every scholarship opportunity you can find. Even beg if you have to. Then compare the costs of the various schools you want to attend.
Last but not least, look at the school itself. What kind of reputation does this institution have? Does it have accreditation? What have graduates of their master’s and doctoral programs done with their degree? What is the school’s mission, and does it fit with your personal values and views? Are all the courses on the internet, or do you have to go to campus for some of them?
Getting an accredited graduate degree online is the remarkable option for people in fields where it takes a graduate degree to advance professionally.

Nursing is a field in great demand. With growing needs, the health services and other agencies require highly qualified and trained nurses each year. But whether you are studying to be a nurse or qualifying yourself further, funding is a great challenge.
What you need to do is get your facts right and find out what your options are. The first option is to approach FAFSA at the institution where you want to study or are already studying. This is on a first-come first-served basis, so be sure to complete the formalities early.
Do your research well but keep your eyes open for scams. Look up the federal trade commission warnings about scholarship scams. Remember to contact your local nursing association, the state boards of nursing, and the American Nurses Association at ana.org/. They have tons of guidance as well as information on nursing grants and scholarships. Another valuable online search is nursewebsearch.com/nursing_scholarships.htm , where many opportunities are listed.
There are many nursing scholarships and grants available, from federal grants to private funding. There are scholarships offered by schools of nursing, scholarships funded by agencies with specific criteria, by trusts, corporations, as well as individuals.
The criteria for eligibility vary from college to college but would generally be: applicants must be seeking admission to the first year or advanced studies in nursing, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, be dedicated to nursing, and have a professional attitude as well as immense amounts of positivity. Requirements would include college transcripts, letters of recommendation, an essay stating why the student chose nursing as a profession, and information of citizenship, ethnicity, and family financial status.
The US Department of Health and Human Services has instituted a “nursing scholarship program” where in exchange for two years of service the scholarship will give tuition, fees, other expenses like books, clinical supplies, laboratory expenses, as well as a monthly stipend.
To be eligible for a grant or scholarship, you must be clear what your goals are, what are the qualifications you plan to work for, and how much funding you need. Based on this you would need to make a list of eligible scholarships and then fill in the applications correctly, completely, and on time.

Need is greater than ever before
ELT forums like esl-jobs-forum.com/ , blogs and web pages like www.eslbase.com/ across the internet almost continually post comments, advice and varying opinions on the viability of native vs. non-native TESOL, EFL / ESL English language teachers. Native English-speaking teachers couldn’t begin to fill the myriad of TEFL English teaching positions continuing to develop worldwide. The need for competent, non-native speaking English teachers is greater than ever before. Let’s follow some commentary that identifies some typical problems and their possible solutions.
There are some problems
“Be wary of errors, not mistakes.”, I always tell my EFL students in business and university classes. But either can cost the non-native English teacher seeking a position. Note this ELT forum comment. A non-native speaking English teacher “may have stellar qualities regarding their teaching abilities and they may be charismatic mentors to their students. However their first impression to a prospective employer, in most cases an email or other written form of communication, can determine the employer’s decision to consider you or not to consider you for the job.” So, the first thing I would do, is to improve my written grammar skills. Minimize the reasons the employer may have to NOT consider you.
Other commentary advises non-native English speaking EFL English teachers to emphasize your knowledge of the cultures of the many English-speaking countries. That may include personal experiences, interesting anecdotes, including the origin of a word or phrase. “I also feel that employers, parents and students want the “whole package.” So non-native English speakers need to maximize the reasons the employer has to hire you.”
Another commenter indicates that “…you don’t have to be a blue-eyed, blonde-haired, “white” person (or pink person) to get the job. The employer is not going to see you anyway as they read your first correspondence. That gives you time to present yourself in a very appealing way.”
Be Honest With Yourself
“As far as non-native speakers teaching ESL/EFL, especially in an English-speaking country, it is important to be brutally honest with yourself.”, comments another ELT professional. Ask yourself these questions responds another ELT forum commenter:
• Do you speak English intelligibly with little or no mother-tongue (L1) accent?
• Can you speak and write grammatically correctly? Remember, you are your students’ model. If you cannot pronounce the words they need to learn correctly, how can you expect them to?
• If you don´t speak and write grammatically correctly, how can you expect them to?
These are drawbacks for any non-native speaker teaching in another language.
A Bit of a Sticky Wicket
Culture is an integral part of English or any other foreign language teaching. What about those language, cultural and idiom situations which come up in class? Questions about local sayings, events and customs? How do you handle these? One commenter noted, ”…I have taught all different levels and I have found that students have questions that I know a non-native teacher would not be able to answer.”
He continues making this point, ”…I have come into contact with some awesome non-native teachers, but in general the native speakers were just better… I listened to some of the teachers ask me questions that were just obvious and use idioms incorrectly in an attempt to sound like they were better than they were.”
While the need for competent non-native English-speaking TESOL English teachers will continue to outstrip the supply, teachers do need to careful in putting their best foot forward. For further ideas, information and commentary be sure to read the companion article, “Do EFL English Schools Really Need Native English Speaking Teachers?”

It wasn’t all that long ago that online learning, or distance education as it’s also known was just a supplemental way of taking more classes via an offline campus. As technology advances, and software and web page creation get better this market has grown into offering online college and high school courses as a very viable way of getting an education without ever having to leave home.
For the person who might not have been able to attend college after high school, or the adult who didn’t think it was required they now have a second chance. Even for those who have no form of transportation to or from the school, have children at home, hold down one or more jobs, or possibly even have a physical disability that keeps them from attending classes at a campus, online college courses give them the chance to learn.
People who choose to take advantage of online college courses use technology such as video and audio lectures, email, instant messaging, and chat rooms to attain the required information needed. Then there are online research and study sources they use to make up the remainder of the online college courses.
One fantastic thing about online college courses is that they are one hundred percent equal opportunity. Any person of any color, religion, race, location, or learning ability who has the mindset to study and willingness to learn is able to do so. Often times even an accredited and transferable course.
Before you apply, enroll, or pay any online college be sure to do some background checking. Some supposedly legitimate online college courses aren’t always what they appear to be after researching. There are a few online schools offering online courses that aren’t qualified to do so. They are not accredited. What does this mean? If you’re looking to take your online course load and use it as credited coursework towards for instance a degree, it must be accredited. This means that the school must meet the requirements of the accreditation body in your area. In the US it is the Department of Education, they watch over and regulate American colleges and universities.
You may read a websites claim that they are accredited, or possibly they display the official images and links to suggest they are. Even the way a website might be worded often suggests that they are accredited, when they are not. You’ll pay high fees, and sign all the required documents, but unfortunately all for nothing when it comes time to graduate, or transfer you bogus courses or degree.
With all of this being said, remember not every institution is bad. There are a lot of schools right across North America and Internationally that are legit, registered schools offering accredited degrees and courses. So when your searching consider legitimate offline schools that have an online presence and course offering. Also look for the accreditation information for distance learning education, if you don’t see it or cannot find it just ask. One stupid question up front is better then spending a lot of time on something that is worth nothing. Simply put protect yourself, it’s wonderful that you want to better your education but be sure you do it with a licensed school, and not just a scam out to take your money.

An online degree opens up a world of opportunities including a new career, better job prospects, skill enhancement and career progression. Studying online is a great way to further your education while keeping your present job and looking after your family.
Here are 7 tips on choosing an online degree.
1. Check the credibility of online colleges or universities. Spend time to speak with friends and search for reviews on the internet or in publications. Find out faculty-to-student ratios and class sizes. Smaller class is better because you get more attention from a tutor.
2. Make sure you pursue an accredited online degree program. Otherwise, you may end up with a degree that is not recognized by your employer. Search for third party reviews and testimonials on the internet. You should be able to find out what others are saying about a particular program. Remember, if a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Use your common sense.
3. You must be committed to spending the required amount of time to obtain your degree. Studying online can be difficult for some students because they can be lacking in the motivation usually given by close contact with other students and lecturers.
4. Determine your interests and choice of subjects. If you choose a degree program that you enjoy, you are more likely to complete it successfully.
5. You should be able to set a schedule for your work, study and other commitments. If you can’t find the time to do so, then you definitely won’t have time to study. Make sure that you have a quiet place to study. If you have a spouse, kids or friends in the house, there are bound to be distractions. Can they give you the time and space you need? If not, consider going to a nearby library.
6. What is the technology expected from you? Are the technology requirements beyond your capacity? Do you have the required level of computing knowledge? Most likely, you are required to have a computer, printer and internet connection. You may be communicating with tutors and students via email or teleconference. Would the technology or computing knowledge be a barrier to you pursuing an online degree? Consider taking a computing course to brush up your computer skills. Make sure there is tech support from the online college or university.
7. Some programs require occasional attendances at the college or university campus. Can you fit these into your schedule? If you don’t show up for a meeting or class, you can be penalized by losing marks in your overall score.

There are many scholarships available to any and all people that are going into the nursing profession. Some people don’t want to take the time to find out about scholarships for nursing school. Many believe that the monies that they receive from financial aid will be sufficient. Indeed, sometimes it is, that is if you also take the student loans that eventually have to be paid back. The payback period usually begins approximately six months following graduation from nursing school. But be careful, if you drop out of nursing school for any reason, and do not apply for a hardship extension, you will be liable to begin paying back the student loan, in spite of your circumstances. With scholarships, you do not have to pay them back, period! This is true even if you have to drop out of nursing school for a short period of time. There is another false hood that is widely accepted. That is, that one has to have a 3.0 grade point average or greater to be eligible to apply for a nursing school scholarship. Not true.
There are many factors that allow an individual to apply for a nursing school scholarship. Maybe your are a single mother living on government aid, there is a scholarship for you. Maybe you are of a low income bracket and have a particular ethnicity, there is a nursing school scholarship for you, maybe you just live in an area that is considered economically challenged, there is a nursing school scholarship for you. The list goes on and on.
Where do you begin to find out if there is a nursing scholarship available for you. Other than the internet, the best other place to begin is in your home town, at your place of worship, your place of employment and the schools that offer a nursing program. You will be surprised to find that there are scholarships out there just for being you! Many places of employment or large companies have foundations and wealthy founders that put monies into funds for scholarships. Maybe your parents worked at a company for most of their lives that now makes you eligible to obtain a scholarship. Automotive company founders offer scholarships. Even large supermarket chains offer scholarships for nursing school.
The main idea behind scholarships is to promote education in the community. So don’t ever feel that you are left out in the cold. It might be that you may run into a counselor that may not seem to have the time to do any research for you, but don’t let that discourage you. Sometimes when you are going after something that you really want, like a career in the nursing field, you have to take the reigns and be assertive. That means finding someone to help you, if someone else won’t. The point is, that there are people that are hired to help you find the scholarships for nursing school that best fit your needs. That does not mean that you shouldn’t do your own research as well. The chances of you finding some other scholarships for nursing school in addition to those found for you can only help not hurt.
